The Global AI Summit 2025 concluded yesterday in Geneva with over 70 countries signing a landmark agreement aimed at regulating artificial intelligence and ensuring its ethical use worldwide.

The three-day summit brought together world leaders, tech CEOs, scientists, and policymakers to address the rapid evolution of AI and its implications on data privacy, employment, and international security.

The highlight was the signing of the Geneva AI Accord, which outlines:

  • Ethical standards for AI development and deployment

  • A framework for cross-border data sharing

  • Restrictions on autonomous weapon systems

  • Creation of an independent global AI ethics council

“This agreement represents the first true global consensus on AI governance,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “We are ensuring that AI uplifts humanity rather than dividing it.”

Leaders from the United States, India, China, the EU, and African nations emphasized collaboration over competition, especially in AI healthcare, education, and environmental protection.

Big Tech companies, including Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Baidu, also pledged to adhere to the framework, with voluntary transparency reports and algorithm audits.

The Geneva AI Accord is expected to be ratified by participating countries before the UN General Assembly session in September 2025.
