Dr. Anthony Raju Applauds CM Rekha Gupta’s Pro-People Stand on Slum Demolitions

Dr. Anthony Raju, a distinguished Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and the National Chairman of the Indian National Human Rights Protection Council and Akhil Bhartiya Garibi Mukti Morcha, has lauded the bold and compassionate directive issued by the Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji. The CM has firmly instructed officials not to proceed with slum demolitions without ensuring the provision of permanent housing, and has warned of strict action against those inciting fear through misinformation.
“This is a highly appreciable and humane step by the Honourable Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Ji. Her directive reflects true leadership and a deep commitment to the protection of basic human rights and dignity of the underprivileged. The voice of the voiceless must never be silenced by bulldozers but must be heard through dialogue, development, and dignity,” stated Dr. Raju.
He further emphasized that the right to shelter is a fundamental human right, enshrined in the Constitution of India and reinforced by international human rights conventions. “This action sets a precedent for all states to follow, where progress must walk hand-in-hand with compassion,” he added.
Dr. Raju reaffirmed his organizations’ continued commitment to stand with the poor, oppressed, and marginalized, and extended full support to the Delhi Government’s progressive policies that aim to eradicate poverty through inclusive governance.
